Overview
ChatGPT Exporter Plus ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps you export your ChatGPT conversations. This privacy policy explains what data the Extension collects, how it is used, and your rights regarding your data.
Data Collection
The Extension collects the following data:
- Chat conversation data — Message content and titles from ChatGPT conversations you choose to export. This data is processed locally in your browser and is only used to generate the export file.
- Extension settings — Your preferences such as filename prefix, default export format, date format, dark mode setting, language preference, and download subfolder. These are stored locally via
chrome.storage.sync and synchronized across your Chrome browsers where you are signed in.
How Data Is Used
- Conversation data is used solely to generate the export file (text, markdown, CSV, JSON, or PDF) that you explicitly request by clicking the export button.
- No conversation data is ever sent to any remote server unless you voluntarily submit feedback through the built-in feedback form.
- Settings data is stored and synchronized via Chrome's storage API for your convenience across devices.
Feedback Feature
If you choose to submit feedback through the Extension's feedback form, the following data is sent to our team via a webhook:
- Feedback type (Bug, Feature Request, or Other)
- Email address (optional, only if you provide it)
- Feedback content (the text you write)
This data is used solely to improve the Extension. Your conversation data is never included in feedback submissions.
Data Storage & Security
- All data processing happens locally in your browser. Conversation data is temporarily cached in
chrome.storage.local for the purpose of populating the export interface and is not transmitted elsewhere.
- Export files are generated entirely on your device. No data leaves your browser except when you explicitly submit the feedback form.
- We do not use cookies, analytics, or tracking services of any kind.
Third-Party Services
The Extension uses the following third-party libraries for export functionality:
- html2canvas — Used to render PDF exports by capturing HTML content as canvas. All processing is done locally.
- jsPDF — Used to generate PDF files from canvas data. All processing is done locally.
Both libraries operate entirely within your browser and do not send data to any remote server.
Permissions
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- activeTab — To access the current ChatGPT page and read conversation data when you open the popup.
- downloads — To save exported files to your computer.
- storage — To store your settings and temporarily cache conversation data.
- scripting — To inject the interceptor script into ChatGPT pages for capturing API responses.
